Media Literacy Topic: US Troops Being Removed from Niger
• Tensions raise as the people of Niger are protesting against the involvement of US Troops, whose purpose was to protect against Islamic rationale groups.
“Niger plays a central role in the U.S. military’s operations in Africa’s Sahel region, an area on the edge of the Sahara Desert…Washington is concerned about the spread of jihadi violence, where local groups have pledged allegiance to al-Qaida and the Islamic State groups.”
Media literacy is important. I am finding out alot about discerning the truth in the media in this class. I now read with a different perspective than I used too. I go and do fact checks on the stories that jar my interest. The fact that the US is in Niger and causing angst does not surprise me but I now wonder if the story is true.
