"Mardi Gras" is French for "Fat Tuesday"

  • a celebration that leads up to the beginning of Lent; usually consists of parties, parades, and consuming rich, hearty foods prior to fasting

  • Falling on February 13th this year, the celebration usually occurs 47 days before Easter and 1 days before Ash Wednesday

I have gone to mardi gras before and it is an interesting celebration. The parades are very unique and now that I am in this class, I can see the African and Caribbean influence.
